# Long Text Summarizer > Summarize long documents, PDFs, Word files and meeting or video transcripts as a TL;DR, a bullet brief, chapter-by-chapter, action items (with owners, dates, decisions and open questions) or Q&A. Every point is tagged with the section it came from, and one click opens that section with its page, heading or timestamp. No API key needed: each summary is paid per run with SkillSafe credits, and the price is shown before you run. URL: https://long-text-summarizer.skillsafe.ai/ API: https://long-text-summarizer.skillsafe.ai/api.html ## What it does - Reads PDF (text layer), DOCX, TXT, Markdown, HTML, SRT and WebVTT files in the browser, or pasted text. - Recognises transcripts: subtitle files, copied video transcripts with timestamps on their own lines, meeting exports ("Name 00:01:02" then the words) and "Name: text" lines. Timestamps and speakers are kept; caption roll-up repeats are merged. - Cuts the text into numbered sections (about eight for a short text, up to about 4,000 characters each for a long one), each remembering its page, heading or time range. - Free, before any run: word count, reading time or duration, token estimate, share of words per speaker, recurring terms, an extractive skim of key sentences, and a clickable section outline. - Five formats, each in short, standard or detailed length, with an optional audience or focus ("for a busy executive"). - Texts up to about 140,000 characters are summarised in one run. Longer texts are read in parts: each part writes dense per-section notes, then a final run writes the chosen format from the notes. The notes are kept, so a second format on the same text costs only the final run. Texts beyond 1.2 million characters keep the opening and the ending and say exactly which middle sections were left out. - Each format tab shows a typical cost; the reserve for the selected format comes from the platform's free estimate. - The page checks every reply: tags naming a section that was not sent, points with no tag, chapters with gaps or overlaps, notes that skipped a section, sections nothing in the summary draws on, and replies cut short. - Export: copy or download Markdown with section locations; action items also download as CSV. - Signed-in summaries are saved to the account with short excerpts of the cited sections; the full text is never stored. ## Price Free to open, to profile any text, and to try with the two built-in sample texts (every format replays a saved summary at no cost). A summary of your own text is metered: the page shows the reserve before you run and the actual charge after. A 30-page document is typically a few cents. ## Limits - Scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be read; run OCR first. - It does not fetch YouTube or any other URL; paste the transcript or drop a subtitle file. - Summaries can still miss or misstate things. Open the cited section before relying on a point.
